The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has announced that starting from today (19), fuel distribution under the QR system will be carried out based on the last digit of the vehicle number plate.
According to this system, vehicles with even-numbered last digits (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) are allowed to obtain fuel on even-numbered dates. Similarly, vehicles with odd-numbered last digits (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) can obtain fuel on odd-numbered dates.
As today (19) is an odd-numbered date, only vehicles with registration numbers ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 are eligible to receive fuel.
However, CPC Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna stated that individuals who have not yet received their fuel quota under the QR system will be allowed to obtain fuel today, regardless of the odd-even rule.
The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has also informed the public to carry valid documents to confirm vehicle identity when necessary. These include:
Revenue license
Certificate of registration
Insurance certificate
Emission test certificate
This measure comes as some vehicle owners are using unofficial number plates due to delays in issuing official plates.
Meanwhile, long queues were reported at several fuel stations across the island last night (18). To address violations, two special hotline numbers have been introduced for the public to report illegal fuel distribution:
0112 106 767
0117 296 130
The CPC has further stated that legal action will be taken against filling station owners who do not follow the guidelines
